Matthew was one of my tutors while I was at Whitecliffe, and this looks like another good painting exhibition…  There is a write up on this show in the Herald by the way.

Confluentia – it’s all on and looking lovely!

The opening was a success and although the weather was much more conducive to staying warm and indoors, there was a really good turn out! I forgot to take any pictures, but here is an image taken at the end of nearly four hours of setting up the day before…

The exhibition runs for three weeks, and I’ll be minding the gallery on Saturday the 28th from 10am – 3pm for those of you with real jobs and the like, so do take a look!

    Caustic new posters wohoo!

Just finished off the artwork for the new posters!

When you come and see the play (and I know you will), you should buy a program, the cool thing is they open out to an awesome poster for you to put up at home/work/school/library/gallery/museum.

    A play by Thomas Sainsbury

    JANUARY 26th, 27th, 28th 8pm $10
    University of Auckland Drama Studio
Level 3, Arts 1 Building, 14A Symonds St (cnr Grafton rd)

People are disappearing. Coca-city is being bombed. Rebels are within.

I went to see Tom’s latest production on Saturday night – it was cool, quite surreal and as usual very worth seeing.

Don’t worry, word on the street is that the play will be back in a few months time. Watch this space for updates.

    New Zealand Sculpture Onshore 2006

    Forget me Knot installation

This work is inspired by the fantastic landscapes of Dr Seuss and indirectly by The Day of the Triffids a 50s sci-fi novel by John Wyndham. The Day of the Triffids is a great story – mankind is all but destroyed as the Earth has been overrun by genetically engineered plants, specifically created to be farmed for bio oil… I consider my creations to be bizarre hybrids, sprouting unexpectedly, sporting unnatural, almost radioactive colours in imitation of the organic forms present in the natural world.

    Medusoids iii, iv, v & vi, 2006.

Just got home from installing Forget me Knot at Fort Takapuna Historic Reserve in Devonport, over looking stunning Narrow Neck beach, Rangitoto Island and the Hauraki Gulf. Danika and I managed to install the works in a great location among some small bushes in the gusty wind and brief showers.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday the 3rd of November, with the artists welcome and Gala opening night on Thursday the 2nd. The exhibition runs for two weeks, for more information visit the exhibition website:

    Material Worlds, October 28 – November 9

In installation by Bex Davis, Marisia Dudek, Emily Rubin and Suzanne LeVesque.

Small Dog Gallery, in the Devonport Art Depo, 28 Clarence Street, Devonport.

This exhibition opened last night and had a great turn out. Each artist was responsible for approximately 100 pieces roughly the size of an A5 page and the works were installed in the gallery from floor to celling, creating a visual overload. The concept was an experiment in mass production and obsession and brought together a wide range of media and materials.

  • Cante chiCo, Melissa Durbin and Aaron Hurley

Although I didn’t have the chance to visit while this project was under way, I did make it along to the closing auction, and it was great!

The project involved a team of staff receiving and documenting donated junk and then through a process of submission of proposals permission was granted to either go ahead with the proposal or go back to the drawing board. The resulting objects d’art were auctioned off along with the files and documentation from the project as well as the rights to the next Cante chiCo exhibition.

Unfortunately I was quickly out-bided on the pieces I was keen on… it was a cool idea, and it was good to see so many people turn out in support.
