Portraits of the artists and writers

Each portrait in this series is drawn and hand stitched into repurposed cotton hand dyed with avocado skins and stones. The dye process takes two to three days, hass avocado skins produce a dark tannin colour, and the stones of avocados blush with a pinky peachy hue. The process yields variation in colour hue across the fabric and no two dye batches are the same, I work towards zero or low waste cutting and frame portraits with or without glass. Each work in this series is drawn and hand stitched into repurposed cotton hand dyed with avocado skins and stones or natural indigo. The dye process takes two to three days, hass avocado skins produce a dark tannin colour, and the stones of avocados blush with a pinky peachy hue. The process yields variation in colour hue across the fabric and no two dye batches are the same. Indigo dye process also reveals colour variation across the fabric in response to time and number of dye bath dips.

Golden Oyster (On the smallness of things), 2022.

$380 **SOLD**

Winner of ‘Best Round’ in the Craig’s Aspiring Art Prize 2023,

Golden Oyster (On the smallness of things), a ‘drawing in stitch’. The image embroidered in the textile is a drawing of one of many shells I collected with my nana Joy while we walked beaches together in the 1980s. My nana Joy valued these shells so much she preserved them in jars, my process of documenting objects of significance via drawing and stitch continues the story, and embeds them in my memory. Found textile dyed with avocado skins and seeds, pencil, embroidery thread.
