During his time in prison, Yamashita befriends and cares for an eel, that is given to him by the guards as he leaves, supposedly the eel is the only creature he can truly relate to. Afterwards Yamashita experiences surreal nightmares that are sometimes confusing, strikes up friendships the ‘earthy’ folk in the small town where he sent to work out his parole, and develops a complex relationship with a woman who is haunted by her own demons.
