Check the Big Day Out website for the the full press release, in the meantime, I can’t wait to see Bjork, Shihad, and Rage Against the Machine, other cool acts include kiwi’s Katchafire, SJD, The Phoenix Foundation and The Clean. And that’s just the first announcement! Tickets go on sale from all usuals from October the 12th, $120 + booking fee, can they up the price any further? Gees.
I will be about eight months pregnant, but I think I’ll be ok! How often do you get to see Bjork?? It will be good for baby, I’m sure…

All though I have been watching quite a few films lately I do have other things to write about…

There was of course the Big Day Out, anticipated for oh so long… Timmy and I only just got there, being two of the many punters who thought that it would certainly not sell out two weeks in advance, not to mention the whole lets just be sensible and wait for pay day to avoid using the credit card – did I learn my lesson!

After anxiously logging on to ‘my ticketek’ well before 9am on Monday the 16th – the very moment the additional 2000 tickets were released, and calmly refreshing again and again the ‘this page is overloaded please visit later or try refreshing your browser’ message (envisioning Timmy’s little heart breaking should I have to tell him that once again I could not get tickets, and therefore he would miss TOOL) .. to cut a long story short, I managed to purchase two, and only two tickets in the given time allowed (6 minutes or there abouts – any longer and the tickets would be released and be available to the next person in the virtual cue… by 9.06am the tickets had sold out…

And then there was the whole, use public transport to get to you there line, so I thought sure! Seeing as how I bus into town for work.. may as well take the bus leaving from Real Groovy – great idea! You can just imagine the faces as people sauntered on down Queen Street only to be greeted with a que that went down the road and around the block… we’re talking waiting approximately 30 – 45 minutes to get on a bus. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not averse to waiting for a bus, but we had been sold the ‘it’s the quickest and best option for getting to the BDO’ line – and the buses were only supposed to be operating from 10 am til 2 pm… they must have continued well after 2… Hopefully our friends at Stagecoach will be more prepared next time round.

But it’s not all bad news… there are of course the great BDO stories that we all go home with – although there were some exceptions at this sell out gig – like queuing for a good 45 minutes to use the ladies, all the while listening to the distant rumble of Peaches and Hermes… wishing I was in the Boiler Room with all the other punters shakin my ass as Peaches whips off the 37th pair of undies she was wearing… thankfully after taking care of business I did manage to catch the last couple of tracks (wohoo) during which I was rewarded (?) for my dedication and dancing (?) by a sweet soul who tapped me on the shoulder and announced that she wanted to give me her balloon, I graciously accepted her balloon, and the hug that came with it…

Then whilst taking a little fresh air above and behind the main stages near the rides, I was a little affronted by a man rummaging (and I mean rummaging) around in the front of his pants. I’m not exactly a sweet young thing, but I do have a measure of decorum, and so was politely trying to avert my gaze, all the while wondering what on earth he was doing, when he produced a bottle of Crown Larger from his groin, I was quite relieved to say the least..

But by far the most treasured of my BDO 2007 memories will have to be my experience whilst chilling out in anticipation of Tool. Timmy, by now had been waiting up front for a couple of hours, having steadfastly sat through the Killers AND Muse (now that’s dedication) slack old me wandered on down the back with 5 or 10 minutes to spare, thinking I’ll just sit at the side for a bit and make my way into the crowd in good time (treasuring some personal space). Innocently I sat down beside the Super Loop ride, hardly noticing that I was on the side that people step off from, smiling as kids hoped off shakily but, you know, all having the time of their lives. It did occur to me that perhaps I was not sitting on the ideal side of the ride, when a tallish guy steps off very unsteadily, and looking quite pale, pausing as he ponders the next best course of action… he was, naturally, about to have a good spew. Fortunately, he was wearing one of those great towelling Tui hats, and I watched as he – without hesitation – casually removed it and then spewed into it, about three times. Good on ya mate and good ya Tui!

Musical highlights were The Mint Chicks, Peaches, The Rock n Roll Machine and of course Tool, all in all a fun day!

Lovely Rob gave me tickets to the sold out Cansei de Ser Sexy gig at the Kings Arms last week and it was awesome.

It was the most fun gig I’ve been to for a long time, So So Modern opened and they were also excellent, kids these days are crazy! I just love CSS, check out the Alala video on you tube here, and a snippet of the fab Lets Make Love. I had been looking forward to their gig as soon as I hear they may be on their way here.
